A Social rights activist was yesterday rearrested exactly two
days after facing incitement charges before a Makadara court.
Beatrice
Karore was put in custody alongside three other activists as they were
recording statements concerning several threats received.
However, they were locked up under unclear circumstances exactly two days after their release from court on Monday.
Sources
state that all four activists feared for their lives and grouped
together to report the threats at Starehe police station.
On Monday, the female activist in her 30's was among three others
who denied the charges and were each released on a sh 10,000 cash bail.
They were bailed out through a fund raise of mathare residents and family present in the court room.
They allegedly incited a mob in Mathare slums to demonstrate against
insecurity in the area after two of their residents were killed by
robbers on Saturday night.
Before her arrest during the
demonstration she was shot by police on her lower back and is currently
healing from the deep wounds.
Another man was also caught int he crossfire and was shot on his right hand and seeks well wishers for proper medical care.
Bitter residents who were eye witnesses denied claims by the Huruma OCS that she was treated after her custody in cells.
According to a resident of the slums, "Insecurity has become a serious issue int he area and needs affirmative action."
The case will be heared on 7th January next year.
